This segment is a tribute to the origin of Nausicaa's name. Miyazaki scholars know that Nausicaa was named after a character from the Odyssey that lived on the island of Scheria and was the beloved princess of the people known as the Phaecians.
Miyazaki was inspired by the character of this young woman who was gracious, courageous, and kind, and these qualities are all evident in his incarnation of Nausicaa.
